Summer Concerts 2022

In the summer of 2022, we organised two wonderful concerts. The Syrian singer Mireille Bittar and the Ukrainian singer-songwriter INOYSON performed at the  temporary emergency shelter locations for refugees in Amsterdam South. Before the concert, they gave a workshop where the refugee children could participate. During the performance, the children stood in front of the audience together with the musicians and performed the songs they had learned together.

For this project, we collaborated with various artists, providing them with a platform to showcase their talents and offer a diverse range of music styles for the children (pop, jazz, and world music).

The primary goal is that children enjoy it, can engage with it and find the songs 'cool'.

The artists
INOYSON

The Ukrainian artist INOYSON left Ukraine after the outbreak of war. The singer-songwriter and composer now lives in Hilversum with a host family.

Here INOYSON tries to continue making music, collaborate with Dutch musicians and introduce the world to Ukrainian art and culture. The multi-instrumentalist is working on new albums here that focus on Ukraine.

Mireille Bittar

Another artist is Mireille Bittar, a Syrian singer who studied in Damascus and at the Amsterdam Conservatory. She is the founder and artistic director of the Mosaic ensemble and has performed in many operas. She is also known for the TV program 'We want more'.

She performs for us together with Feras Khouri (piano) and Modar Salama (percussion). They perform music that is close to our hearts; music from the Middle East but also music from the Western classical tradition. They bring these two different worlds together and build bridges between Western and non-Western cultures.
